Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The post of rector is currently vacant at 276 of around 4,500 schools in Baden-Württemberg. Many positions remain vacant, especially at the more than 2,300 primary schools, there are exactly 190 there, as the Ministry of Education told the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” and the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” (Thursday). In July 2021, rectors were still being sought for 206 schools in the country.
The trade union for education and science (GEW) fears that due to the heavy workload on the school management, hardly anyone would want to take on these posts. "It's never been that bad," said GEW Managing Director Matthias Schneider to the newspapers, referring to the mood among rectors. The burden will increase when the legal right to all-day care comes in 2024. Then the organization of the care will probably get stuck with the headmasters.
The Ministry of Education wants to improve the working conditions of school principals. A spokesman announced in the newspapers that further funds would be announced in the forthcoming budget consultations.
