Baden-Württemberg: Coalition wants to decide on additional spending

If there should be a serious gas shortage in winter, the next household should also be wasted. But it's not that far yet. That's why Kretschmann's coalition is now negotiating additional spending and new jobs.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The budget negotiations of the Greens and CDU in Baden-Württemberg on Monday (3 p.m.) are about the wishes of the ministries. The heads of department should explain to the budget committee for which projects they absolutely need more money.

According to its own calculations, the coalition still has 340 million euros left for political priorities. It is already clear that Minister of Education Theresa Schopper (Greens) should get more money for additional teachers. Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) can also hope for more funds to strengthen the police force.

The budget commission, headed by Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), wants to largely wrap up the draft for the double budget for 2023/2024 after several rounds of negotiations. Greens and CDU have already agreed that the debt brake should be observed again. However, the energy crisis could still thwart the coalition's plans.

Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz (Greens) is already anticipating that there will be no more growth in the winter. If there is a severe recession due to a gas shortage, there will be a significant drop in tax revenues.

Most recently, Green Party leader Lena Schwelling called on the coalition to use an exception clause in the debt brake because of climate change and the turnaround in transport and to invest "full pipe". For the CDU, however, that is out of the question. Greens parliamentary group leader Andreas Schwarz pointed out that the debt brake in the state had proven itself and that the federal government had to give more money for rail transport.
