Baden-Württemberg: winegrowers report on the grape harvest in Baden

"Pampered by the sun" - that was the advertising slogan for wine from Baden in the past. Regardless of the drought in summer, the winegrowers in the growing region are expecting a good vintage.

Waldkirch (dpa / lsw) - The Baden Winegrowers' Association wants to report on Monday (10:00 a.m.) in Waldkirch about the current year's harvest. Managing director Holger Klein had already announced that after a dry and hot summer he was expecting an above-average vintage. The Vice-Chairman of the Gengenbach-Offenburg winery, Reiner End, made a similar statement at the end of August. The drought has stressed the vines, but the yields should be good, he said with a view to the Ortenau.

In the separate growing region of Württemberg, the outlook for this year's harvest is much more skeptical. According to the assessment of the local association, the winegrowers there are expecting a significant drop in yield.

The Baden growing region stretches over 400 kilometers from Tauberfranken to Lake Constance. In terms of area under vines, the wine-growing regions of Baden and Württemberg rank third and fourth respectively in Germany. Only the areas of Rheinhessen and Pfalz are larger.
