Baden-Württemberg: Corona numbers increase moderately after Cannstatter Wasen

After the end of the Cannstatter Volksfest, there has not been such a sharp increase in the corona numbers in Stuttgart as after the Wiesn in Munich. Rather, the number of infections is increasing across the country.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After the end of the Cannstatter Wasen in Stuttgart, there has so far been no comparable increase in corona numbers as after the Oktoberfest in Munich. Even several days after the end of the folk festival on October 9, the seven-day incidence in Stuttgart on Thursday was 428.9, well below the statewide average of 790.4 most recently.

In and around Munich, the corona numbers rose sharply during and after the Oktoberfest, which ended on October 3rd. In the city, the incidence was almost 1,500 on Wednesday. The health department also assumes that there is a high number of unreported cases of actually infected people in Munich - it is suspected that the number is at least three times as high as that of the officially reported infected. The clinics there report a significant burden from new Covid patients.

The number of Covid patients is also currently increasing at the Stuttgart Clinic and the number of cases of illness among staff is increasing, as medical director Jan Steffen Jürgensen said. However, many other clinics in the country are currently experiencing a similar development.

According to a spokesman for the city of Stuttgart, one of the main reasons for the increase in corona numbers is that people are spending more time indoors again. Major events such as the Cannstatter Volksfest also played a certain role. How big this is cannot be determined without a doubt without tracking the contacts.
