"You can only distribute the money you have." Actually a bulrush. But Prime Minister Kretschmann recently felt compelled to issue this warning. There are likely to be some disappointments in the budget talks.
Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The heads of the green-black coalition are meeting this afternoon (4.30 p.m.) to negotiate the 2023/2024 double budget. Under the direction of Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), they want to decide on which political priorities the scarce financial leeway should be used. Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz sees the corridor at just under 400 million euros. The Green politician fears that the impending energy crisis could cause tax revenue to collapse in the fall and urges moderation.
However, in the preliminary talks, the other ministers did not adhere to this requirement. Despite the difficult budgetary situation, they announced additional expenditure of 7.75 billion euros and almost 9,000 jobs. It is considered certain that only a small part of the new posts will be approved. Bayaz considers only 350 positions to be absolutely necessary. These new positions are to be created primarily in schools, health authorities and in prisons.
