Baden-Württemberg: FDP also wants to pay prospective teachers over vacation

Temporary teachers have always been made redundant during the summer holidays. Green-Black is changing that now. In the future they will be paid continuously. The FDP also demands this for trainee teachers.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The FDP parliamentary group in Baden-Württemberg demands from Grün-Schwarz that the prospective teachers are also paid over the summer holidays. After a long argument on the subject, the budget commission of the green-black state government had decided that in future at least temporary teachers would also be paid over the summer holidays.

The education policy spokesman for the FDP, Timm Kern, said one could have guessed that this educational gift had a huge catch. "After it was announced last week that summer vacation unemployment for temporary teachers and junior teachers alike should be ended, the Green-Black budget committee took this back for trainee teachers last Saturday."

For these educators, it remains with the unworthy practice of summer vacation unemployment - of all things for the next generation, said Kern. There is a teacher shortage that is still looking for its equal. "It must now be a question of recruiting large numbers of committed, good teachers."

The initiative for the changes now planned came from the Greens parliamentary group leader Andreas Schwarz. The CDU side found it difficult to reject the Greens' demand because a party conference recently voted to end the regulation. Nevertheless, there were voices that did not see this issue as a priority - there was talk of a "teacher happiness program".
