Baden-Württemberg: Gentges: Laws are sufficient in the fight against "Reich citizens"

After the raid on a blown "Reichsbürger" network, calls for stricter laws have been raised. A reflex or a necessity? The Minister of Justice has a clear opinion.

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - In the fight against "Reich citizens" and "self-administrators", Justice Minister Marion Gentges believes that the current legal situation is already sufficient to achieve success. Stricter specifications are not necessary, said the CDU Minister of the German Press Agency. "The latest large-scale raid against the Reich Citizens' Scene was based on existing laws," she said. "So our laws provide the adequate framework and tools to counter this threat."

However, many people still think that the so-called Reichsbürger are about a few people who are confused on the way and looking backwards, but not dangerous. "I think this action against the citizens of the Reich has made one thing clear: there is a real danger to our state," Gentges warned.

During the major raid on the "Reichsbürger" scene on December 7, the federal prosecutor's office had a total of 25 people arrested, including 8 from Baden-Württemberg. She accuses 22 of them of being a member of a terrorist organization that wanted to overthrow the political system. According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe, 3 of those arrested should be supporters. "Reich citizens" are people who do not recognize the Federal Republic and its democratic structures.
