A 28-year-old man stands in the bathroom with a sushi knife and kills his grandmother in front of his mother. The background to the fact is a mental illness. Now he is before the court.

Ravensburg (dpa / lsw) - A 28-year-old has confessed to having killed his grandmother in madness with a sushi knife. "It was all spontaneous," said the German on Wednesday before the Ravensburg district court. I'm sorry. Because he is not considered guilty due to a mental illness, it is an application procedure that involves placement in a psychiatric ward.

The man is accused of having killed his grandmother in April of this year in Achberg (Ravensburg district) with a throat cut. The 88-year-old had lived there with her grandson and his parents for more than a year and a half. After the crime, his mother and father held him until the police were able to arrest him without resistance.

His mother was standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom with her grandmother when the attack happened. "It all happened very, very quickly," said the 57-year-old in court. He also said that grandma had dementia and that she shouldn't suffer any longer. Her son had been behaving very suspiciously days before the incident. "He was disturbed, he was scared, he was different than usual." But she was never afraid of him.

The accused testified that he tried to take his own life a few days before the crime. Because that didn't work out, he killed Grandma. He wanted to protect his family from greater harm. A vague fear of torture accompanied him throughout his life.

He described himself as an outsider who could sit in front of the computer for hours and cultivated acquaintances on the Internet. A marriage with a 19 year older woman in Bamberg ended in divorce. He has lived with his parents again since 2016. He didn't learn a trade. He had been treated since school days.

The trial is scheduled to resume on October 26. A judgment could also be made on this day.
