Baden-Württemberg: heavyweights on the scales: the heaviest pumpkin is sought

Which breeder has the fattest pumpkin? As every year, this is the question in Ludwigsburg. At the German Pumpkin Weighing Championship, giants from all over the country weigh in. Not the only betting event this weekend.

Ludwigsburg (dpa / lsw) - Germany's best pumpkin breeders weigh their hundreds of kilograms in Ludwigsburg on Sunday (10:00 a.m.). Breeders from all over the country take part in the German Pumpkin Weighing Championship. When competing at the pumpkin exhibition in the Blühendes Barock Ludwigsburg, it is also important to beat the German record weight from 2018. It is a whopping 916 kilograms, bred by Mario Weishäupl from Bavaria. In a separate Baden-Württemberg ranking, breeder Nils Schuon from Haiterbach holds the record for pumpkin weighing with 695 kilograms.

It won't be the only evaluation at the weekend: the longest pumpkin in Germany, the heaviest field pumpkins and watermelons will also be awarded. A week later (October 9th), pumpkins from all over Europe weigh in. The defending champion is Stefano Cutrupi from Radda in Chianti (Italy), who took first place last year with his 1217.5 kg pumpkin.

In the gardens around Ludwigsburg Palace, countless specimens and huge pumpkin sculptures can be seen at the annual pumpkin exhibition.
