Biberach (dpa/lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann has rejected calls for peace negotiations with Russia and called for solidarity with the attacked Ukraine. "Ukraine can be sure that we will stand firmly by its side with economic aid, with the necessary arms deliveries, with sanctions and with tremendous solidarity," said the Green politician at his party's Ash Wednesday in Biberach an der Riss.
In this context, he sharply criticized the recent "Manifesto for Peace," in which the left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht and the feminist Alice Schwarzer propose relying on negotiations with Russia instead of arms deliveries in the Ukraine war. "It's something pretty incredible to fall back into such an old perspective," said the Green politician. The Germans in particular must have learned from their fatal history not to negotiate with another state on the back of one country, he said, and in this context also mentioned the Hitler-Stalin pact and the division of Poland between the two dictators in World War II.
In the middle of the month, Wagenknecht published a "Manifesto for Peace" together with the feminist Alice Schwarzer, in which they warn of an escalation of the Ukraine war. It has been sharply criticized by numerous commentators, including calling on attacked Ukraine to compromise.
