Germany must deviate from the "rigid retirement age and make it more flexible - but not downwards, but upwards," said the Green politician on Tuesday in Stuttgart. However, pension policy is the task of the federal government, emphasized Kretschmann. The pension system is being put under enormous strain. According to the head of government, fewer and fewer workers have to finance more and more pensions. The fact that people are retiring early also increases the shortage of skilled workers.
At the weekend, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) spoke out in favor of more people than before actually working until the applicable retirement age. The SPD, Greens and FDP had already announced at the beginning of the traffic light coalition in Berlin that they would hold a dialogue with the social partners about how wishes to stay longer in working life could be realized more easily. The traffic light in the coalition agreement also ruled out a further increase in the retirement age. According to the current legal situation, the age limit without pension deductions will be gradually raised from 65 to 67 years by 2029.
