Baden-Württemberg: Kretschmann skeptical about fire letter: Open to suggestions

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann reacted cautiously to the fire letter from municipalities and business in terms of reducing bureaucracy and state requirements. "The state government shares the concern of the letter to reduce bureaucratic obstacles," said the Green politician on Friday. However, the demands from the letter are not only aimed at the state, but at all levels of government, including the municipalities themselves, and in particular the federal government and the EU. "That's why we have to win over all levels of government for this project, otherwise it won't progress to the desired extent."

"I'm very happy to talk to the initiators about how this can be done," explained Kretschmann. He did not take up the proposal from local authorities and business for a "convention on the future". Instead, he said: "We are still working on a format that is suitable for this." In addition, the country is "always open to concrete suggestions on how we can simplify procedures and reduce bureaucracy".

A broad alliance of municipalities and business had asked Kretschmann to convene a "future convention" "to initiate a change towards a modern future state with reliable and realizable commitments". The "turning point" in the wake of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine is forcing the country to redefine what has priority and what can still be financed.
