Uss arrested in Italy: Now Russia is also looking for a Siberian governor's son

When the son of a Russian governor is arrested in Italy, there is great outrage in Russia. But now the Russian authorities are suddenly looking for the young man themselves. He is accused of money laundering.

The Russian authorities have put the son of a senior civil servant on a wanted list for alleged money laundering. This is reported by the Interfax news agency, citing the Ministry of the Interior. It is therefore Artjom Uss, whose father Alexander Uss is governor of the Greater Krasnoyarsk Region in Siberia. Explosive: Uss junior was arrested a week ago in Italy for trying to circumvent sanctions against Russia. At the time, Russian officials spoke of political persecution.

According to Governor Uss, his son was arrested in Italy for supplying "oil products, public facilities and technical means freely bought and sold throughout the world". The arrest was "politically motivated". Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also condemned "the practice of such arrests of Russian citizens" abroad. The authorities have not yet commented on the criminal proceedings in Russia that have now become known.

Uss is not the only relative of high-ranking Russian politicians who has recently encountered problems abroad. In Norway, the son of former railway chief Vladimir Yakunin, who was a confidante of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin for years, has been arrested after launching a drone on the island of Spitsbergen. The island is considered strategically important, and Russia insists on prospecting rights for coal on the Arctic island, among other things.

There are also relatives of high-ranking politicians who are leaving the country for fear of prosecution. On Thursday it became known that the TV presenter and former presidential candidate Ksenia Sobchak also traveled to Lithuania. She is the daughter of Anatoly Alexandrovich Sobchak, who promoted Putin's career in St. Petersburg. She is accused of extortion in her home country. Hundreds of thousands of young men have also fled Russia to avoid partial mobilization.
