Baden-Württemberg: KSC coach Eichner wants to “grow in both penalty areas”

Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - Coach Christian Eichner from Karlsruher SC called for his team to increase both offensively and defensively before the English week of the 2nd Bundesliga. "We have to improve in both penalty areas," said the 39-year-old two days before the game against Holstein Kiel on Saturday (1 p.m. / Sky). On the one hand, "the love of defending has to be increased again over 90 minutes - in every little detail." On the other hand, "the last pass has to be better, the end clearer. The last footballing lust in front of the goal has to be increased."

The Karlsruhe team recently conceded four competitive defeats in a row. Their lead over the relegation places is only four points. In the past three games, they have managed just one goal from open play. "It must be the goal to go into the winter break with the 2 before that," said Eichner with a view to the current 17 points, with which the KSC is in the middle of the table. After the game against Kiel, there are still matches against 1. FC Kaiserslautern (November 8) and FC St. Pauli (November 12).

The Baden team will have to do without captain Jerôme Gondorf, who saw yellow-red in Hanover (0-1) against Kiel. Strikers Malik Batmaz and Mikkel Kaufmann are fit again. Eichner wants to be careful with Leon Jensen, who suffered an acromion fracture. The 25-year-old will probably not play again before the World Cup break.
