Baden-Württemberg: Minister of the Interior criticizes the FDP in the weapons dispute

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In the dispute over stricter gun laws, Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister Thomas Strobl has criticized the FDP's blockade attitude. "The Federal Minister of Justice and his FDP are once again on the wrong track in terms of security policy," the CDU politician told the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" and the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" (Thursday). Justice Minister Marco Buschmann put on blinders instead of looking with Argus eyes to see where there are loopholes for extremists, citizens of the Reich and self-government.

As a consequence of the coup plans of the "Reichsbürger" scene, the federal government is relying on stricter laws and an expansion of prevention. This was announced by Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) and Family Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) on Wednesday in a current hour in the Bundestag. In addition, the interior minister again campaigned for stricter gun laws, which, however, continue to meet with resistance from the coalition partner FDP. "The applicable weapons law already allows for a consistent disarmament of Reich citizens," stressed the legal policy spokeswoman for the Free Democrats, Katrin Helling-Plahr.

In Baden-Württemberg, weapons have been confiscated from extremists for years, Strobl told the newspapers. "The FDP and AfD cannot prevent that." Weapons should not be allowed to come into the possession of unreliable persons. Weapons had no place in the hands of enemies of the constitution, in particular.

Even before the most recent raid on the "Reichsbürger" scene, Strobl had campaigned for stricter gun laws in the fight against extremists. The law is often undermined, the Minister of the Interior told the German Press Agency at the end of November.
