Baden-Württemberg: More and more gyms in the southwest are becoming emergency shelters

Konstanz (dpa/lsw) - Because other accommodations are overflowing, more and more districts and municipalities in the south-west are again using sports halls to accommodate refugees. "Several counties have already had to move to an increasing number of halls and other emergency accommodations," said Alexis von Komorowski, chief executive of the district council. He knows that this will not be without consequences for schools and clubs, but the situation is extremely serious. So far, around 132,000 refugees from Ukraine have found refuge in Baden-Württemberg.

In the district of Konstanz, for example, five district sports halls are currently occupied, and a sixth is being prepared, said the deputy district administrator, Philipp Gärtner, on Thursday. 720 people are housed in the sports halls. Another 192 places are available.
