Thuringia: Altenburg Gera: Cooperation with the Romanian Philharmonic

Altenburg/Gera (dpa/th) - In 2023 there should be several large cooperations between the Theater Altenburg Gera and Romania. A corresponding cooperation agreement between the five-section theater and the Romanian Philharmonic was signed on Wednesday, the theater announced on Thursday.

In cooperation with the orchestra and choir of the Filarmonica Banatul, the choir of the Timişoara Opera, the concert choir Rutheneum and the choir of the Ion Vidu Music High School, Arnold Schönberg's "Gurre-Lieder" will be staged in 2023. The concerts with around 350 participants are to take place in Gera in mid-September and in Timişoara (German: Temeswar) at the end of September. The project is being funded by the federal government with around 360,000 euros. Funding has also been promised from the Romanian side, it said.

There is already a regular exchange between the orchestras of the partner cities, it said. The chief conductor of the Timisoara Philharmonic, Radu Popa, is to conduct the 2nd Philharmonic Concert on October 19th, 20th and 21st in Gera and Altenburg. A delegation of orchestra musicians from the Altenburg Theater will also work in Timisoara for a week at the end of October and take part in a philharmonic concert and chamber music concerts. The general music director at the Theater Altenburg Gera, Ruben Gazarian, is to appear as a guest conductor in Timisoara in November. Timişoara is the Romanian sister city of Geras and 2023 European Capital of Culture.
