Baden-Württemberg: Only 47 heat pumps in state buildings: SPD complains about speed

Even with solar systems on state roofs, the government is not exactly setting a good example. But what about the heaters? The opposition complains of a lack of ambition.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to the SPD, the green-black government is making far too slow progress in the heat transition. There are only 47 heat pumps in the approximately 8,000 state buildings, according to a response from the Ministries for the Environment, Finance and Economics to a request from the SPD parliamentary group, which is available to the German Press Agency in Stuttgart. The SPD environmental expert Gernot Gruber said: "As with the sluggish expansion of wind power and photovoltaics, the state government is lagging behind its own claims. It is taking revenge that the green-led state government has not been able to push the heat transition for eleven years."

The Ministry of Finance, which is responsible for the state building, rejected the criticism. A spokesman told the dpa that all buildings that have been planned and built in recent years have been equipped with efficient heating technology such as biomass.

Heat pumps are an essential element in reducing the emission of climate-damaging carbon dioxide in buildings and becoming less dependent on fossil fuels for heating. With a heat pump, the environmental heat from the ground, groundwater or air is used. The heat is extracted from the environment and brought to a higher temperature level with the help of a refrigeration cycle - electricity is needed for this.
