Baden-Württemberg: Opposition appalled by Strobl's appearance

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After the hour-long questioning of Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) in the investigative committee on the police affair, the SPD domestic politician Sascha Binder was again appalled by the minister's appearance. "Thomas Strobl broke the law, obstructed investigations by the public prosecutor's office and lied to the public for months," said Binder on Saturday. "It's frightening that Thomas Strobl isn't taking the consequences of his misconduct and resigning from his post."

The day before, Strobl had been questioned for more than eight hours into the evening - including for the payment of 15,000 euros, which Strobl now wants to pay to end the proceedings against him. He is said to have pierced a lawyer's letter to a journalist in connection with an investigation by the prosecutor's office against the country's highest-ranking police officer, the inspector of police. That is why Strobl is also being investigated. During the questioning on Friday evening, the minister stated that he could not remember many things.

The FDP MP Julia Goll also reiterated her allegations towards Strobl on Saturday and called his memory gaps not very credible. "Unfortunately, it has become apparent that the interior minister is still not at all helpful in clarifying the facts," she said. "Someone with so many memory gaps is simply not suitable as a minister."
