Baden-Württemberg: Özdemir visits food rescuers from "Harry's Bude"

Stuttgart/Mannheim (dpa/lsw) - After getting to know each other for the first time in Berlin, Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (Greens) paid a return visit to the food rescuers from "Harry's Bude" in Stuttgart. At the container at the church of St. Maria, Harry Pfau, who was once homeless himself, together with other volunteers, distributes food to the needy - cooked from organic food whose sell-by date has expired.

Pfau's food rescue program is supported by the Catholic Church, which is the sponsor of the project. "Harry's Bude isn't just a place to serve food, it's a place for encounters, integration and fighting poverty," said Jürgen Langerfeld from the Stuttgart Civic Foundation on the fringes of the meeting.

Özdemir had previously been expected for the last day of the Stuttgart Vesperkirche, where impoverished pensioners or needy families received a warm meal. According to the Leonhardskirche in Stuttgart, the Stuttgart Vesperkirche served around 700 meals a day, around 100 more than in 2022. State Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz and State Parliament President Muhterem Aras (Greens) had previously been guests.
