Baden-Württemberg: SPD insists on relief package for Baden-Württemberg

The federal government has already decided on three relief packages, but the state has so far been reluctant to do so. The SPD opposition believes that Kretschmann and Co. should follow the example of traffic lights.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In view of the price increases for energy and food, the SPD in the state parliament continues to insist on its own relief package for Baden-Württemberg. In the state parliament, the Social Democrats want to put pressure on the green-black coalition in a current debate on Wednesday (10 a.m.).

The opposition group refers to Lower Saxony, which has invested almost one billion euros in state-owned relief. School canteens would be financially supported, there would be a protective shield for municipal utilities, help for food banks and small and medium-sized companies that were threatened with their existence. SPD faction leader Andreas Stoch asked: "How much more crisis does it take for the state government to start investing in aid?"

Among other things, he called for liquidity support for the economy and guarantees for companies that no longer received energy supply contracts. "A state government that just looks on is playing with thousands of bankruptcies and hundreds of thousands of jobs," Stoch told the dpa.

Deputy Prime Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) had confirmed on Tuesday that the federal government was on the train when it came to relief. "As far as a rescue package for hospitals and public utilities is concerned, the federal government is of course initially responsible," said Strobl in Freiburg. We now want to wait and see what comes from the federal government. "We also make this dependent on (...) the extent to which we also support this on the part of the state."

But the CDU is also interested in the cohesion of society in the crisis. In the state parliament, she wants to debate this Wednesday about how to strengthen the community and prevent a shift to the right, such as in the parliamentary elections in Italy.
