Baden-Württemberg: Study: At least 16,000 teaching positions will be missing by 2035

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to a new study, the shortage of teachers in the south-west will increase massively again by 2035. According to an analysis by education scientist Klaus Klemm on behalf of the GEW trade union, at least 16,000 teachers will be missing by then. If the state wants to achieve its goals for primary schools and the integration of disabled children and young people, significantly more teachers would have to be hired by 2035.

According to Klemm's calculations, the gap will increase to 27,000. GEW country manager Monika Stein said on Friday in Stuttgart: "These are frightening numbers." She called on the government of Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) to act. If she creates more study places and new jobs, "she can correct her own mistakes of the past eleven years and prevent a long-term shortage of teachers".
