Baden-Württemberg: Stuttgart celebrate the new year peacefully

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Baden-Württemberg state capital has started the new year peacefully. This is the first assessment of the organizer of the central New Year's Eve celebration at Stuttgart's Schlossplatz. According to a police spokesman, it was rather quiet in downtown Stuttgart on Sunday night.

A police spokesman announced that there had been no serious incidents in downtown Stuttgart. "We were completely surprised ourselves. To our delight, it was very quiet."

The police were on duty with hundreds of officers who mainly checked whether people had brought fireworks into the prohibited zone within the city ring. According to their own statements, the emergency services recorded a total of 14 ads, mostly due to unauthorized fireworks.

A spokeswoman for the organizer said more than 15,000 people came to the party on Stuttgart's Schlossplatz, including many families. They "dance and celebrate exuberantly" until the end of the celebration at 1:00 a.m.

The majority of visitors have therefore decided spontaneously to spend the turn of the year at Schlossplatz. Around 5,000 tickets were sold by last Thursday. The celebration at the fenced-off Schlossplatz was designed for up to 20,000 visitors.
