Baden-Württemberg: Suppliers and politicians rely on fuel cells

Esslingen (dpa/lsw) - According to the state agency for new mobility solutions, fuel cell technology offers great opportunities for the automotive industry and its suppliers in the south-west. In particular, the stack production and the construction of electrolysers can be advanced with the know-how of the machine and plant manufacturers in the state, said Franz Loogen, the managing director of the state agency e-mobil BW on Wednesday in Esslingen.

The stack is the heart of a fuel cell. With its help, hydrogen and oxygen are converted into electrical energy. And in electrolysers, water is converted into so-called green hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis with the help of electricity, preferably from renewable sources such as wind power or photovoltaics.

Baden-Württemberg's Economics Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU) said on the occasion of the Suppliers' Day that companies are facing immense challenges in view of the high degree of international integration and the current geopolitical framework. "It is now all the more important to strengthen regional structures and develop know-how."
