Baden-Württemberg: The rate of company bankruptcies in the south-west is falling against the national trend

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Contrary to the nationwide trend, the number of company bankruptcies in Baden-Württemberg has fallen this year. The insolvency rate, i.e. the number of insolvencies per 10,000 companies, fell from 37 to 36 within a year, as calculated by the credit agency Creditreform.

According to the figures published on Tuesday, the southwest is one of the federal states with the lowest insolvency rates. Only Bavaria (35 cases per 10,000 companies) recorded lower numbers. Thuringia was tied with 36 cases. Both countries had to accept a slight increase compared to 2021. In addition to Baden-Württemberg, only Saarland, Bremen and North Rhine-Westphalia recorded falling rates.

Nationwide, for the first time since the economic crisis of 2009, there are signs of an increase in the number of company bankruptcies. According to Creditreform estimates, around 14,700 companies will have gone to insolvency court by the end of the year. That would be around four percent more than in 2021. Rising energy costs and general inflation are affecting both companies and consumers. Like many other experts, Creditreform expects a further increase in the coming year.

According to official information, in 2021, which was strongly influenced by the pandemic, there were 13,993 cases, fewer than ever since the current insolvency code was introduced in 1999. In order to avert a wave of bankruptcies as a result of the pandemic, the state had made exceptions possible.
