Baden-Württemberg: Theft of gold filings: Almost five years in prison required

Pforzheim (dpa / lsw) - In the process of stealing several kilograms of gold filings from a wedding ring factory, the public prosecutor's office has applied for a prison sentence of several years against the accused. The public prosecutor said on Friday in front of the Pforzheim branch of the Karlsruhe regional court that the man had repeatedly smuggled out of the company gold chips that accumulated in the jewelry production for a long time. "He went to work to steal." According to the indictment, the man took the shavings to a garden shed, where he melted down the gold and later sold it. The damage amounted to 960,000 euros. The prosecution called for four years and nine months in prison.

Originally 66 cases of commercial theft were charged. 27 acts of theft remained in the proceedings. The man made a confession for these cases. The defendant claimed that the remaining thefts were committed by someone else. These cases have now been separated. The defense asked for a sentence of no more than three years in prison. Much of the loot had been secured and the defendant had agreed to make amends for the damage, the defense attorney said.
