Noise pollution, land consumption: In Wannweil there was a dispute about a possible take-off and landing site on the outskirts for a rescue helicopter. The citizens now gave their vote in a decision. And thus overturned a decision of the municipal council.
Wannweil (dpa/lsw) - The majority of the citizens of Wannweil (Reutlingen district) voted in a referendum on Sunday that a rescue helicopter should be stationed in the community. 57.64 percent of the citizens voted for a possible location, as the Mayor of Wannweiler, Christian Majer, told the German Press Agency in the evening. According to the preliminary result, which Majer says will not change much, 42.36 percent of Wannweil's citizens voted against stationing. According to Majer, this paves the way for the district to apply to the Ministry of the Interior to set up the rescue helicopter in the community. Voter turnout was around 56 percent.
The Ministry of the Interior wants to relocate the "Christoph 41" rescue helicopter from Leonberg (Böblingen district) west of Stuttgart to the Tübingen-Reutlingen axis south of the state capital. This was recommended by the Institute for Emergency Medicine and Medical Management at the Munich University Hospital in order to ensure good care across the board.
At the end of July, the Wannweil municipal council had rejected a new location for a rescue helicopter, which should provide people in the region with medical help in emergencies more quickly than before. The panel rejected a landing area on the outskirts with a narrow majority. The reasons given included noise pollution for local residents and land use.
A citizens' initiative had then collected enough signatures to bring about a citizens' initiative in this matter and thus possibly overturn the council decision again. The question on Sunday was: "Do you support the cancellation of the municipal council resolution of July 26, 2022 with session template 2022-112 and thus the possible stationing of the rescue helicopter "Christoph 41" in the municipal area of Wannweil?"
