Künzelsau (dpa / lsw) - The retail group Würth has opened what it says is a 75 million euro research and development center in Künzelsau (Hohenlohe district). According to the company, which is known for screws and dowels, there are laboratories and workplaces for around 250 people on an area of ​​around 15,500 square meters. "The innovation center is a clear commitment to our roots and to Hohenlohe as a business location, an investment in the growth and thus the future viability of the company," said Reinhold Würth, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Foundation, according to a statement on Wednesday.

According to the group, the aim of the new location is "to give space to creative ideas, to shorten innovation cycles and to bring new and further developments to the market even faster and in a customer-specific way". Employees from product development, the production companies as well as scientists and students from technical universities worked together on this at the new location. They also meet the company's customers there.

According to the company, the group has more than 84,000 employees. In 2021, it achieved sales of around 17.1 billion euros. The bottom line was a profit of 965 million euros.
