Bavaria: After the carnival parade: riots due to large crowds at the party

Köfering (dpa / lby) - The rush of too many people to a venue in the Upper Palatinate after a carnival parade led to riots and a larger police operation. In Köfering (Regensburg district), around 2,000 people wanted to continue celebrating in a location nearby, the police said on Sunday. The capacity of the hall was only designed for 600 people on Saturday evening. So more than 1000 people were waiting at the entrances and exits.

According to the police, there were riots and crowds there, as many wanted to escape the bad weather. The organizer and the security guards then informed the police. There have also been isolated emergency calls due to panic reactions. The officials interrupted the celebration in the hall and tried to bring the situation under control. There were no injuries.

A man behaved aggressively in front of the hall and resisted the police officers, who then tied him up. Another man filmed the scene and is now facing criminal charges. There were no other incidents that evening. After that, the capacity of the hall could be maintained and the guests continued to celebrate.
