Munich (dpa / lby) - After strong growth in 2022, the chip industry supplier Siltronic is facing a little more headwind in the new year. 2023 will be characterized by higher costs and uncertainties, the participation of Wacker Chemie announced on Thursday when the preliminary figures for 2022 were presented. At the beginning of the year, utilization of 200 and 300 millimeter wafers remained high, although some customers would see a weaker order situation in the first half of 2023. However, this should only come as a limited surprise, as manufacturers of memory chips in particular have been doing poor business in some cases recently.
In the past year, Siltronic increased sales by 28 percent to 1.81 billion euros. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization increased by 44 percent to 672 million euros, and thus even more significantly than analysts had expected on average. However, sales and operating profit in the final quarter were both slightly below the figures for the third quarter.
