Bavaria: Christmas holidays in Bavaria end: return wave expected

Munich (dpa / lby) - Due to the end of the Christmas holidays in Bavaria and seven other federal states, the streets should be full next weekend. The automobile club ADAC expects traffic jams on numerous routes. A spokesman announced on Monday in Munich that the return wave from the Christmas vacation was reaching its peak.

Apart from the Free State, the holidays also end in the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein as well as in the neighboring German states of Austria and the Netherlands. Due to the Epiphany holiday, the weekend in Bavaria as well as in Baden-Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt begins on Thursday afternoon (January 5). The ADAC is already expecting a lot of return travel nationwide on this day. According to the information, most traffic jams should occur on Saturday and Sunday. Due to the departure traffic from the winter sports centers, the traffic experts expect traffic jams, especially for Saturday on the long-distance travel routes near the Alps.

According to the information, the metropolitan areas of Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Cologne are particularly at risk of congestion - but also the Autobahn 7 Füssen / Reutte - Würzburg and the A8 in the Karlsruhe - Stuttgart - Munich section and the A9 in the Munich - Nuremberg - Berlin section. In Austria, the Tauern, Inntal and Brenner autobahns are among the most congested routes. The Gotthard route in Switzerland and in Italy, for example the roads to Vinschgau, are also expected to be very busy.
