Munich (dpa/lby) - After a series of street blockades and sticking actions in Munich, 15 climate activists from the "Scientist Rebellion" group remain in police custody for the time being. To avert danger, they would be detained by court order at the latest until Friday to prevent further actions that have already been announced, a police spokesman said on Monday.
The "Last Generation" group threatened motorway blockades around Munich for the coming days. Bavaria is symbolic of Germany's climate failure; the federal government is failing "and is leading us to annihilation," the group explained. "The resistance is just beginning."
A dozen "Scientist Rebellion" activists from France, Spain, Italy and other countries had daubed six cars in the BMW world on Saturday and glued themselves to one car. According to the group, it has 1,000 members worldwide and calls for a speed limit of 100 km/h on German autobahns, the reintroduction of the 9-euro ticket and debt relief for the Global South. A spokesman for the group said it was the fifth action in Munich within a week. Most of the participants in the campaign at BMW were involved in almost every campaign. Ten must now remain in police custody until Friday, the others arrested will be released in the course of the week or have already been released.
BMW estimates the damage to the cars at tens of thousands of euros and reported the perpetrators for property damage and trespassing. Because the fire alarm had also been abusively triggered during the campaign, all visitors had to leave BMW World on Saturday.
