Bavaria: Company: Earned millions with illegal disposal?

Hengersberg (dpa / lby) - those responsible for a construction company from Lower Bavaria are said to have earned millions with the illegal disposal of contaminated construction waste. As reported by the Passau public prosecutor's office and the police, there was a raid on three districts in the region on Thursday because of this allegation. Business premises and apartments were searched. More than 150 police officers and prosecutors were on duty.

The Karl group of companies from Hengersberg (Deggendorf district), to which the company concerned belongs, announced that the affected subsidiary was cooperating with the investigators. "Karl Bau GmbH is very interested in fully clarifying the matter," says a statement. The company sees itself harmed by a former division manager and his employees. It is about completed projects and not about ongoing construction sites.

According to the police and public prosecutor's office, the accused company managers are said to have not correctly disposed of road surface and other demolition waste, which was contaminated with asbestos for several years, in southern Bavaria. This is said to have saved several million euros that would have been incurred if the waste had been properly disposed of. The authorities are now checking whether the wrong disposal has harmed the environment.

Files and large amounts of data were confiscated during the search. The investigators now want to evaluate this. In addition, a so-called asset arrest of 2.7 million euros was carried out. This serves to ensure that any profits made through criminal offenses can later be confiscated by the court in a possible trial.
