Bavaria: Customs secure 50 kilograms of ecstasy substance

Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - Customs officers have seized 25 kilograms of a raw material for the production of the drug ecstasy when checking a parcel distribution center in Nuremberg. Another package with the same content had already been forwarded, but could be stopped by Dortmund customs, the Nuremberg customs office said on Tuesday. The total of 50 kilograms would have been enough for the production of up to 240,000 tablets, which would have been worth almost two million euros on the street, according to the customs office.

The officials noticed the package from Hungary during the package inspection on February 14. When they opened it, they found a bag of white powder that customs officials said initial analysis revealed was a substance called piperonyl methyl ketone, a precursor to the synthetic drug ecstasy. Ecstasy acts as a stimulant.
