Saxony: change at the head of the VW engine plant in Chemnitz

Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - The VW engine plant in Chemnitz is getting a new manager. On Wednesday (March 1st), 57-year-old Gerd Hahn will take charge there. The engineer recently managed the production and engine departments at the main plant in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen Sachsen announced on Tuesday. Hahn replaces Uwe Thesling, who is retiring.

Combustion engines for passenger cars are still being built at the Chemnitz site with around 1,900 employees. According to earlier company information, last year there were just over 600,000 units. "I am convinced that he will make the plant competitive and future-proof - also with regard to electromobility," said Group Board Member for Technology Thomas Schmall.
