Bavaria: Doctors are calling for state funding for vaccination centers to be stopped

Munich (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's general practitioners, pediatricians and youth doctors are calling for the state funding of the corona vaccination centers to be stopped. "This parallel structure, subsidized with taxpayers' money, must be dissolved. The vaccination centers are not only expensive and up-to-date and useless for the foreseeable future, but also an attack on the established medical care in town and country," said Markus Beier, state chairman of the Bavarian Association of General Practitioners, and Dominik A Ewald, regional chairman of the professional association of paediatricians (BVKJ) on Wednesday in Munich.

Furthermore: "It is not conveyable that in times when contribution increases in the statutory health insurance funds have been decided and the increase in the tax-financed part of the statutory health insurance funds is under discussion, a useless and extremely expensive double structure in terms of supply policy is maintained." Vaccination centers made sense at the start of the pandemic, which is why practices backed that political decision at the time. But now the situation is different.

“Back then, we had to cope with an onslaught of people wanting to be vaccinated and little vaccine was available. Today it’s exactly the opposite,” said Wolfgang Ritter, board member of the General Practitioners’ Association and Michael Hubmann, Vice-Chairman of the BVKJ. Many patients were only vaccinated after thorough medical advice. "The great trust that patients have in their family doctor or pediatrician plays an important role. Anonymous vaccination centers cannot do that."
