Bavaria: Greens want 50 percent women in the Bavarian state parliament

Munich (dpa/lby) - The state parliament Greens are starting a new initiative to significantly increase the proportion of women in the Bavarian state parliament by changing the electoral law and the Bavarian constitution - from just 27 to 50 percent today. Both direct and list mandates should therefore be given equally to women and men. In addition, the Greens want to enshrine in the Bavarian constitution that half of the cabinet members must be female. The party presented the corresponding draft law on Friday in Munich - including a legal opinion: the new allocation rule is "without question constitutional" and would stand up to any scrutiny, said lawyer Silke Laskowski.
