Bavaria: Herrmann: TV film hides crucial aspects

Bad Tölz (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann sees the feature film "Giant thing - Every hour counts" about the cave rescue of 2014 hidden crucial aspects. The image of the mountain rescue service, which is not shown so positively in the film, does not correspond to the work of the many volunteers, as can be experienced every day in mountain rescue, Herrmann said on Friday.

Fiction and reality diverged significantly in many places in the film that was broadcast on ARD on Wednesday. "The film is not a documentary, but rather a modern fairy tale based on real events. That is completely permissible, but in some places the impression is given that the film also has a documentary character. Especially as far as the role of the mountain rescue service is concerned, the film deviates significantly from what actually happened."

In large parts, the film deviates from the actual course of the eleven-day rescue operation with many hundreds of helpers. The cooperation between cave rescuers, mountain rescue service, many volunteers from abroad, the aid organizations, the armed forces, the federal and state police and the fire brigade was excellent. "More than that: she was exemplary and even formative for later assignments."
