Bavaria: Jahn Regensburg self-critical after 2: 1

Next league win for Jahn. The Regensburgers beat Sandhausen and get a cushion in the 2nd league. In order to keep up with the top teams, some construction sites have to be eliminated.

Regensburg (dpa / lby) - Jahn trainer Mersad Selimbegovic clenched his fists after the success over favorite opponent Sandhausen on the sidelines. After a temporary slump in the 2nd Bundesliga, SSV Jahn Regensburg is slowly regaining its old strength. The 2: 1 (1: 1) on Saturday in front of 8123 spectators classified midfielder Max Thalhammer as a "classic work win" just a few days after the disappointing end of the cup.

Der Jahn started the game furiously and took the lead after just 40 seconds after an own goal by the guests. After Alexander Esswein equalized in the meantime (12th), Andreas Albers (70th) finally ensured the third league win against Sandhausen in a row. While the guests missed a liberation in the table basement, Selimbegovic's team consolidated its position in midfield.

"We put up a good fight. We were very stable in the second half and didn't allow anything defensively," said Thalhammer, describing the intense game. It was important to have "a small cushion" before the upcoming tasks against Rostock and Hamburger SV.

Despite the deserved victory, the 25-year-old lamented the form fluctuations that ran through the Regensburg season. So after the sovereign 3-0 in the league over Kaiserslautern there was the swatter in the cup against Düsseldorf - now another win. "The results are weird," Thalhammer said. He couldn't explain the unusual ups and downs. "We just want to bring in consistency now. If you want to be a top team in the 2nd division, then you have to stop that," demanded the midfielder.

Good standards could help along this path. But like last time, the Regensburgers hardly posed a goal threat against Sandhausen with free kicks or after corners. "We actually have the staff and the quality, but somehow it doesn't work in the game."
