Bavaria: Leftists in Bavaria are led by two women

Munich (dpa / lby) - There are now two women at the top of the left in Bavaria. Kathrin Flach Gomez and Adelheid Rupp were elected new state chairmen at the state party conference in Hirschaid (Bamberg district) in Upper Franconia, as the party announced on Monday. The incumbent head of state, Flach Gomez, received 71.3 percent of the votes, Rupp 69.1 percent. The long-time co-chairman Ates Gürpinar did not stand for election.

"Now we're preparing for the state and district elections with a dual female leadership," said Flach Gomez after the election. The focus of the election campaign should therefore be work and social affairs, housing, education and climate justice. Flach Gomez accused the Bavarian state government of serious omissions. People feel this, among other things, through high rents, low wages, a shortage of staff in schools and day care centers and a completely neglected public transport system in rural areas. Education also depends on the wallet.
