Elsenfeld (dpa / lby) - In Lower Franconia, a man fell on the track and was hit by a train. He survived the accident with serious injuries, police said on Monday.
The 43-year-old man was waiting for the train in Elsenfeld (Miltenberg district) on Sunday when he "slumped" in front of the incoming train and fell into the track bed. Despite the emergency braking, the engine driver was no longer able to bring the train to a standstill in front of the man. The 43-year-old was trapped between the edge of the platform and the train and sustained serious head injuries. He was taken to a hospital. There were no other injuries.
Based on testimonies, a medical emergency is assumed, a police spokesman said on Monday. Investigations had shown that the man had just released himself from a clinic.
