Bavaria: man stabbed in Neumarkt: motive unknown after confession

Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz (dpa/lby) - After the killing of a 25-year-old in Neumarkt in Upper Palatinate, the motive for the crime is now the focus of the investigations. A 46-year-old suspect has already confessed to stabbing the young man on Thursday. Whether and to what extent he also testified about the reasons for his actions could not be found out from the police on Saturday. The 46-year-old is now in custody. According to the information available so far, the two Germans already knew each other before the incident.

On Thursday evening, the police received an emergency call that someone had been injured by at least one stab in an altercation. Police officers then found the 25-year-old at the address given in an apartment near the city park – the young man died shortly afterwards. The 46-year-old, who was also in the apartment, was provisionally arrested as a suspect. He admitted the crime and on Friday an arrest warrant was issued against him on strong suspicion of manslaughter.

The victim was also examined by a medical examiner. Forensic pathologists determined that a stab wound and related injuries to the torso were the cause of death. "A knife-like letter opener was secured as a suspected crime," said the police headquarters.
