Bavaria: Medical association calls for 6000 more medical study places

Regensburg (dpa/lby) - In order to ensure medical care for people in the state, the Bavarian Medical Association has requested 6,000 additional study places for the subject of human medicine nationwide. On the other hand, the delegates at the 81st Bavarian Doctors' Day in Regensburg rejected further funding for the Physician Assistant (PA) course. The PA courses in Germany do not have any uniform study and training goals and take up capacities that would be needed at the medical faculties, it was said. The Doctors' Day ended on Sunday with numerous resolutions.

The corona pandemic in particular has presented the healthcare sector with enormous challenges since 2020. But the doctors also see the climate crisis with extreme heat waves as an important issue. According to the announcement, they welcome the heat action plans in Bavaria intended by the Ministry of Health. These should be introduced before next summer. In addition to the creation of drinking fountains in inner cities and a ban on school sports outdoors in high heat, the creation of alarm plans for clinics, medical practices, care facilities, kindergartens and schools could be implemented quickly.

The delegates are also calling on the legislature to adopt the new fee schedule for doctors (GOÄneu) by the end of 2022 and support the decision made by the Conference of Health Ministers in June, which aims to ensure that "external investors with exclusive capital interests are excluded from founding and operating dental MVZs". . Such regulations should also be made for medical care centers (MVZ) and anchored in the Federal Medical Code.

In addition to the expansion of medical courses, the delegates call for extra-occupational courses and qualification opportunities for medical assistants (MFA) to be strengthened.

In addition, the medical parliament called on the legislature to "finally reduce energy waste and health hazards on German roads by introducing speed limits." The health hazards of road traffic are well known.
