Würzburg (dpa / lby) - A man courageously stood in the way of a rioter in Würzburg and received punches and kicks for it. In addition, the 32-year-old was choked so badly that he had to be treated in a hospital. As the police and prosecutors announced on Tuesday, two suspects aged 26 and 34 were taken into custody on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.
The 34-year-old is said to have repeatedly thrown bottles on the ground at a tram stop early Sunday morning. When the 32-year-old asked him to stop, the suspect attacked the man. The 26-year-old is said to have initially tried to calm the situation down - but then also physically attacked the 32-year-old. According to investigators, the victim was beaten, choked and kicked in the head.
Two initially uninvolved men aged 22 and 24 tried to help the attacked. Ultimately, however, the thugs were only stopped by federal police officers. The 32-year-old was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, where he received outpatient treatment.
