Munich (dpa/lby) - The scientist Claudia Kemfert will receive the Bavarian Nature Conservation Prize 2022 for her services to climate protection and a sustainable economy in Germany. "Claudia Kemfert is a prominent voice for the decentralized energy transition. As a scientist in the field of business and energy, she sets deal with the economic effects of the climate crisis and, on this basis, calls for the exit from fossil and nuclear energies," said the chairman of the Bund Naturschutz Bayern, Richard Mergner, in his laudatory speech on Friday at the award ceremony. Kemfert is "an important player on Germany's and Bavaria's path to climate neutrality".
The Nature Conservation Prize is the highest award from the Bund Naturschutz (BN) in Bavaria. It's been around for more than 30 years.
"I am particularly pleased to be awarded this important prize in times of populism, disinformation and fake news. Because it shows that civil society and science work closely together in their commitment to nature, climate and democracy," said Kemfert. She heads the Energy, Transport and Environment department at the German Institute for Economic Research. She is a professor of energy economics and energy policy at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, has been a member of the Advisory Council on Environmental Issues since 2016 and is a member of the Executive Committee of the German Society of the Club of Rome.
