Bavaria: Normal autumn weather in Bavaria after a warm period

Munich (dpa / lby) - After an unusually warm period of fine weather, there is now normal November weather in Bavaria at the weekend - including a few snowflakes in the Alps. "We have gone from extreme values in terms of temperature to the normal level," said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Friday. At the end of October it was still up to 25 degrees warm in the foothills of the Alps, while only 10 to 11 degrees are usual - "and we are currently there," said the expert.

Higher up it is of course already colder - the rain falls as snow in the mountains up to about 1000 meters. Above 1300 to 1500 meters there could be up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow in places by Saturday morning, and up to 30 centimeters in places in high mountain areas.

"But that's far from unusual, I wouldn't speak of the onset of winter yet," said the weather expert. An indication of this is that if winter really sets in at this time of year, snow would also have to fall in the Bavarian Forest, for example. But instead it rained on Friday on the Großer Arber.

The foothills of the Alps and eastern Bavaria in particular initially received a lot of rain from the cold front of a low, while it stayed dry for longer in Franconia and later had a few showers. Isolated fog banks with visibility below 150 meters were then expected for the night.

"On Saturday it will remain below ten degrees with rain showers, i.e. typical autumn weather," explained the DWD meteorologist. "On Sunday it will already be dry, the sun will come through in the Alps during the day and it will be quite warm in the valleys at 10 to 14 degrees." According to the forecast, even higher temperatures will be reached on Monday and Tuesday - there should be a mild 16 degrees in Munich, for example.
