Bavaria: Pupils wrap a church tower as an art project

Karlstadt (dpa / lby) - Ten high school students, together with many helpers, wrapped a 30 meter high church tower in Karlstadt (Main-Spessart district) in Lower Franconia. The art object erected on Saturday as part of a school project bears the title "Wrapped Clock Tower" and is very reminiscent of well-known wrapping artists: the tower is covered with white panels that are optically lashed upright and across with red cords.

"This is the steeple of a fair-faced concrete church, which has been known in the settlement here in Karlstadt for over 50 years. And I find it very exciting to see it differently now with white fabrics and red cords," said Pastor Simon Mayer, who left the enthusiastic about the project on the bell tower of the parish church of the Holy Family. "Also, then unveiling it again and then seeing it again and seeing it again again even though it's the same tower is a fascinating thought."

The campaign took place as part of a practical seminar at the local Johann-Schöner-Gymnasium. In six months, the ten students managed to get the campaign off the ground and to activate the necessary financial and organizational support.

The tower will be on display in its white packaging until October 22nd.
