Regensburg (dpa/lby) - With the World Baseball Classic (WBC) qualifiers, the preliminary round of the most important baseball tournament for national teams will take place in Regensburg this year from September 16th to 21st. "Millions of fans in America, Asia and here in Europe will have the opportunity to see the best players in the world in a national team competition," said World Baseball Classic President Jim Small on Friday at Regensburg's Armin Wolf Arena. "That's what makes the World Baseball Classic so special."

In Regensburg, Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, France, Great Britain and South Africa will play for two tickets to reach the WBC finals. A second qualifying tournament will be held in Panama. Regensburg is the venue for the preliminary round for the second time since 2012. 2,500 spectators should be able to follow the games live on site.
