Munich (dpa / lby) - Spring weather at the turn of the year: The German Weather Service (DWD) measured record values on New Year's Eve in Bavaria. In Wielenbach in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau, it was 20.8 degrees on Saturday, warmer than ever before in a Bavarian town on New Year's Eve. The highest temperature measured so far on a New Year's Eve in Bavaria was 16.8 degrees in Kempten in 2021.
The state capital Munich also delivered a record value of 20 degrees. It was once again well above the previous New Year's Eve record of 15.6 degrees, which was measured last year in the Bavarian state capital.
According to the DWD, four places across Germany made it over 20 degrees on New Year's Eve. The other two were in Baden-Württemberg: In Müllheim near Freiburg and in Ohlsbach it was 20.3 degrees each.
According to a DWD spokesman, it will not remain that warm at the beginning of the new year. "On New Year's it will also be very mild, but no longer in the 20-degree range," he said. After that, the temperatures should be more wintry again: "In the course of the week, from Tuesday, it will be back in the single digits."
