Bavaria: Residents probably caused fire in child and youth welfare

Würzburg (dpa / lby) - Residents of a facility for child and youth welfare in Würzburg apparently caused a fire in the building with several injuries. Whether the fire was set intentionally or accidentally is the subject of the investigation, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

Among the residents who are suspected of being responsible for the fire are children under criminal responsibility. How and for what reason they could have started the fire is also being determined. On Wednesday, experts examined the scene again.

Five children, a firefighter and an educator were slightly injured in the fire on Monday night. Rescue workers brought ten children and several employees out of the building after a local resident noticed the fire through a girl's call for help and called the fire department.

Police estimate the damage caused by the fire to be in the high six-figure range. According to a police spokesman, it was initially unclear how long the facility would not be usable.
